Elder Chris Crouse – Christ The Man

Elder Chris begins this sermon in John 5 with an account of a man who was ailed for thirty-eight years.  He had come to the pool at Bethesda, since at a certain season an Angel would come down from Heaven, trouble the water, and whoever touched the pool first would be healed.  And Jesus was there, saw him, and knew he had lived with this ailment for a long time.  He asked him “Wilt thou be made whole”?  The man answered “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool:  but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me”.  The man exposed his discouragement and that he felt as though he had no one else to turn to.  Jesus said “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk” and he immediately rose and walked.  Jesus demonstrated that it was not the pool, nor the Angel that healed, but it was the Lord behind this miracle.  And Elder Chris teaches that regardless of the circumstances, when we feel there is no one else to turn to, Jesus is there.

In Isaiah 59 we find that our iniquities have separated us from our God, and God saw that there was no man who could uphold the law and walk a life worthy of eternal salvation.  What the children of God needed was an intercessor on their behalf.  Elder Chris begins to tell the story of Christ the man, the intercessor, and after demonstrating situations where we had no man in our stead, he leaves us with a picture of the man of sorrows, the man who did what no man could.
