There are many things we can become addicted to in this world that are negative. But there are also many good things that we can become addicted to and Elder Jeremiah asks if we need hope so much that we are addicted to it. He shows how David faced sadness and trials, and was addicted to hope by the learnings he had from his past experiences. Joshua was addicted to hope because he was looking toward the future. Finally, after considering the death of Christ, he encourages us to learn from the past, press toward those things that are to come, and to look to the one that is right beside us right now.
