Elder Tim Montgomery – Lay Hold on Eternal Life

This sermon begins in 1 Timothy 6 and encourages us to flee evil, to be content, and to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness…  a good recipe for the child of God.  Elder Montgomery then focuses on a phrase in 1 Timothy 6:12 “lay hold on eternal life”.  He rightly divides the word by explaining that this verse does not mean that eternal life is something we can earn and he demonstrates that all we have earned is death.  But Elder Tim explains how to properly lay hold on what already dwells within each and every child of God.  By letting go of material things, forgetting things that are behind, and focusing on the knowledge of Jesus Christ, we find the very strength needed to press toward the mark that Jesus Christ has set before us.  And he suggests that when we all reach forth unto those things, we discover the prize of close fellowship with God, unity, and peace one with another.
